Owners Dan and Melissa Scott are renovating the former Kemper Sign Building into three loft apartments and retail and office space in the lower level. The couple purchased the building last August and total renovations are expected to cost $400,000.
The lower level is slated for April 1 completion. Dan Scott, an architect, is doing the archetectural work, and Melissa Scott is designing the interior.
The downstairs will be capable of housing one or two tenants, and Dan Scott said they are duplicating what is their interpretation of the original historic storefront. A parking lot will be constructed north of the building.
The property recently was submitted to the National Register of Historic Places for consideration.
