Loehr hires Command Family Medicine owner

Loehr Health Center hired Dr. Luke Van Kirk, owner of Command Family Medicine PC, as its new medical director.

Van Kirk oversees patient care and offers an alternative option for surgery: regenerative medicine pain management treatments including prolotherapy and platelet-rich plasma injections, according to a news release. He'll maintain his Command Family Medicine practice.

"I am excited for the opportunity to help expand access to holistic primary care where practitioners are allowed to treat patients the way they would want to be treated," Van Kirk said in the release.

At Command Family Medicine, Van Kirk operates a direct primary care practice through which patients pay physicians and providers directly for primary care services, typically under a membership model. Van Kirk in December 2015 founded Command Family Medicine, providing adult and family care, urgent care and minor procedures, such as biopsies and injections, and last year announced plans to expand to Branson.

Van Kirk this morning said Command Family Medicine has nearly 1,400 members, including those at the Branson location that opened this week. Additionally, he said Command Family Medicine is planning a move this month to the former Blue Valley Surgical Associates space at the Medical Mile Plaza. The Springfield office is currently located at 2659 E. Normandy Drive.

“I’ll be splitting my time,” he said of his work with Command Family Medicine and Loehr Health Center, noting his practice at the latter company will not operate under the direct primary care model.

Loehr Health Center also announced in the release the hiring of Dr. Joshua Roose, an osteopathic physician, to provide primary care.

Loehr Health Center in February 2020 relocated to Farmers Park. Formerly called Loehr Chiropractic and Acupuncture LLC, the company changed names to reflect its expanded services in primary care, physical therapy and functional medicine, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting. The move allowed the company to add four additional physicians and to offer a gym experience for customers in addition to health care.

The company was among the 2020 nominees of Springfield Business Journal’s Economic Impact Awards. Loehr Health Center reported $2.3 million in companywide revenue and 41 employees as of July 2020.
