Locals named as Nixon's citizen transition advisers

Gov.-elect Jay Nixon has named nearly 20 southwest Missouri businesspeople and residents as citizen transition advisers to help recruit applicants for his administration.

Nixon on Thursday met in Jefferson City with more than 100 people from across the state who will serve as advisers.

"Like never before, professionals from business, academia and nonprofits are considering opportunities to serve in government," Nixon said in a news release. "By appointing these citizen transition advisers, we hope to discover great new public servants right in our own neighborhoods."

The citizen advisers will work with Nixon's transition team, which includes Springfield financial adviser Nadia Cavner.

Citizen advisers from southwest Missouri are: Leslie Anderson, Springfield businesswoman; Rita Baron, principal of Baron Design & Associates; Joe Carmichael, Springfield attorney; Darrell and Wanda Cope, retirees from Hartville; Katie Steele Danner, Hollister consultant; William Fischbach, Branson businessman; Carolyn Hembree, Missouri State University professor; Jim Kreider, former speaker of the Missouri House of Representatives from Nixa; Debra Lowther, Hollister film and television producer; B.J. Marsh, state representative from Springfield; Jeff Miller, criminal investigation manager in Springfield; Travis Morrison, West Plains businessman; Marilyn Nolan, president of Springfield nonprofit Alternative Opportunities Inc.; Jamie Schoolcraft, Willard mayor; Bill Stancer, Cabool retiree; Andy Wood, Neosho attorney; and Chuck Wooten, former state representative from Ozark.
