The Salvation Army of Springfield brought in more than $750,000 in its 2024 Red Kettle Christmas Campaign, but donations came in short of the nonprofit's goal for the annual fundraising initiative.
The campaign's total was $750,393, according to a news release.
"We are deeply grateful for the incredible generosity of our community during the 2024 Red Kettle Campaign. Every donation, big or small, has made a meaningful impact,” said Maj. Amos Shiels, co-pastor and co-administrator at The Salvation Army of Springfield, in the release.
The campaign's goal was $923,000, officials say, and the nonprofit is continuing to raise funds in an effort to fill the gap.
The annual campaign included nearly $85,000 in gift-in-kind donations, such as toys and bikes. Nonprofit officials say that 344 volunteers supported the campaign with more than 1,610 hours, and that 1,326 individuals received holiday assistance and more than 120 people received a Christmas meal, according to the release.
A faith-based poverty relief organization, The Salvation Army provides emergency social services, homeless housing, food pantries and other assistance locally.
