Strafford resident Derek Poe was hired as the next executive director of the Missouri Propane Safety Commission.
Poe, who has 15 years of experience in propane operations management, is scheduled to start as the Jefferson City regulation organization's leader tomorrow, according to a news release.
“Propane safety has been at the heart of my years in the propane industry," Poe said in the release. "I look forward to this new role working with the propane retailers throughout the state of Missouri."
Poe has served as a southwest Missouri manager for AmeriGas Partners LP for the past two years, and he previously worked for Titan Propane, which was purchased by AmeriGas. He also has experience as an assistant golf professional for Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, according to his LinkedIn profile. Additionally, Poe served as a board member for the propane commission.
At the Missouri Propane Safety Commission, Poe succeeds the retiring Denny Carroll, according to officials with the organization.
Poe said via email he would continue to reside in Strafford and commute to Jefferson City, where the commission is based, for the role.
The Missouri Propane Safety Commission was formed by the Missouri Propane Safety Act of 2007, according to the release, transferring the responsibility of propane industry regulation from the Missouri Department of Agriculture. The commission regulates, inspects, enforces, investigates and educates on liquified petroleum gases within the state.
