Speaking today to a crowd of about 60 from the Ozark Community Center, Lynn Morris, founder and president of Ozark-based Family Pharmacy Inc., announced his campaign to run for the Missouri House of Representatives.

Morris, a Republican, is running for the newly redrawn 140th District seat, which comprises a portion of Christian County east of U.S. Highway 65.

“I have worked hard to build up my business, and Christian County has been good to me. I feel that this is another way for me to give back to the community,” Morris said in a news release. "I want to take the lessons I have learned as a job creator and health care advocate to Jefferson City so we can make Missouri a better place to live for us now, and create opportunity for the next generation.”

Morris, who founded Family Pharmacy in Ozark in 1977 with one employee, now has more than 300 employees working at roughly 30 locations across southwest Missouri, according to the release.

Last year, Family Pharmacy gained the top rank in Springfield Business Journal's Economic Impact Awards' Kings category, companies in business 30 or more years. According to SBJ archives, the company posted 2010 revenues of $75 million. Morris also was named among the inaugural class of SBJ's Men of the Year.

The state's primary election is scheduled Aug. 7. The official filing period is Feb. 28–March 27.
