Convoy of Hope is donating new clothing and shoes to the effort, and Rainbow Network already has leaders in place in 12 rural areas near Ciudad Dario, Nicaragua, ready to distribute the supplies.
On Friday afternoon, the organizations will load a 40-foot container of the supplies, which also include school materials, at the Convoy of Hope warehouse, 330 S. Patterson.
The cost of shipping the container is estimated at $5,000, and the organizations are seeking donations to help cover that expense.
“Often in our world, all that comes between people in need and the supplies to meet that need is shipping,” said Mark Struckhoff, Rainbow Network U.S. director, in a news release. “… The donated supplies have no real value until someone provides the money needed to deliver these supplies.”
Donations can be sent in envelopes marked “Nicaraguan Partnership Container” to Rainbow Network, 3834 South Ave., or Convoy of Hope, 330 S. Patterson.
On Aug. 1, Rainbow Network began its efforts to assist more than 5,500 people in the communities near Ciudad Dario. Most families there earn less than $1 per day, and three out of four children suffer from malnutrition.[[In-content Ad]]
