Local group celebrates Historic Preservation Month

Posted online
A local historic building group is hosting an event of Jeffersonian proportions.

Preservation Springfield will host two events at the Jefferson House, 1865 N. Jefferson Ave., in celebration of national Historic Preservation Month.

An open house of the property, dubbed the gateway between the Jefferson Avenue Footbridge and the historic Woodland Heights neighborhood, is scheduled for May 23, 6 p.m.-9 p.m.

Visitors will have a chance to tour the house and meet John and Jody Millard, who will live in the house along with their three children. Refreshments will also be provided.

At 7 p.m. that evening, the group will also present its annual Preservation Awards at the home.

This year’s awards will be given to those who provided support for the organization.

The Jefferson House, built 1885-1887, was originally located at 2017 N. Lyon before it was moved to its current location in 2001 and restored. [[In-content Ad]]
