Local doctor wins state recognition

Springfield physician Norman P. Knowlton III, MD, was named Internist of the Year by the Missouri chapter of the American College of Physicians-Ameri-can Society of Internal Medicine at the association's recent annual meeting at Lake of the Ozarks.

According to a news release from the Missouri State Medical Association, Dr. Knowlton, president of the MSMA, has been in internal medicine private practice in Springfield since 1978.

He is on staff at Cox Regional Medical Center and also has served as the department of medicine chair and chief of medicine at St. John's.

Knowlton earned a bachelor of arts degree in biology from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1970, and he continued graduate studies in genetics at the University of Missouri at Columbia before earning his medical degree at the St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1975.

He completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Missouri at Columbia in 1978.
