Since January 2014, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers has been issuing city-specific domain names, according to CNNMoney. So far, roughly 60 cities have received approval for such names as .nyc, .miami and .london.
The new addresses are expected to help local enterprises boost their web presence and increase sales by directing locals and tourists to nearby relevant businesses.
CNNMoney reports that Berlin, Germany, has received nearly 50,000 applications for .berlin sites.
