Local Bob Evans restaurants spared in weekend closures

Bob Evans Farms Inc. announced yesterday 21 of its restaurants closed over the weekend, including five in Missouri.

A location each in Springfield and Branson were not on the list. Missouri restaurants included were in Joplin, Cape Girardeau, Lee's Summit, Florissant and Belton. All closed restaurants were company owned.

In its fiscal year that begins April 30, the company plans to close six leased restaurants. Those locations have not been disclosed.

Ohio-based Bob Evans Farms' (NASDAQ: BOBE) decision came after a comprehensive review of the struggling chain. The company expects to make $20 million selling the properties.
