Local attorneys, legislator honored by Missouri Bar

Five Springfield attorneys and a state legislator from southwest Missouri received accolades from the Missouri Bar Association during the association's annual meeting Friday.
Joe Passanise of Law Offices of Dee Wampler and Chip Shepard of Carnahan, Evans, Cantwell & Brown PC each received the President's Award. The Missouri Bar president presents the award to members who have made significant contributions to the bar's work.
Stewart Paul Huffman, a partner at Whiteaker & Wilson PC, was one of three recipients of the Lon O. Hocker Trial Lawyer Award, given annually to member attorneys younger than 36 who demonstrate unusual proficiency in trial advocacy.
James Meadows, shareholder with Polsinelli Shughart PC, was one of three people to receive the David J. Dixon Appellate Advocacy Awards, which recognizes achievement in appellate practice by lawyers in practice for fewer than 10 years.
Sole practitioner Donald Harmening received the Pro Bono Publico Award, given to attorneys who have provided outstanding pro bono service in the past year to those unable to pay for services.
State Sen. Jack Goodman, R-Mount Vernon, was one of eight members of the General Assembly to receive the Missouri Bar Legislative Award, given each year to lawmakers and others who play a key role in supporting legislation of interest to the state bar.
