President Bush seems haggard and worn. It’s obvious that the officially undeclared War on Terrorism is taking its toll on his legacy and ability to effect domestic changes touted during his re-election campaign of ’04.
He seems weary and reluctant to post a fight for the principles that conservatives hold dear. That is the only validation in the recent appointment of Harriet Miers, who seems to be uncontested by the far left and an easy appointment forgoing any gory persecution by the liberals.
For liberals to embrace ANY candidate advanced by Bush should raise red-flag warnings about that candidate to all conservatives.
In the conservatives’ eyes, the Bush administration and Republicans have lost integrity and need to account for their domestic failings. Social Security reformation is dead; fair tax restructuring is stalled; border security is unattainable; immigration reform remains in ruins; the Bush energy program is wretched and weak; and the absence of a congressionally declared war in Afghanistan and Iraq is costing more American lives than is necessary.
Because the president and the Republicans in the Republican-led legislature have wasted their time in history, the Republican reign will end abruptly in next year’s election.
We will witness the pendulum of power in the House and Senate swing so far left that our grandchildren will be our age before it “rights” itself again.
Our epitaph will despairingly decry: “Done in by the Republicans and the administration of stagnation.”
