Letter to the Editor: Small businesses prefer ACA

Posted online
The Congressional Budget Office recently revised its estimate of the American Health Care Act and confirmed the concerns many have about the legislation – that millions of people would lose coverage if it becomes law. As a small-business organization, we know the replacement plan will be especially bad for entrepreneurs who struggled to obtain health coverage for themselves and their employees prior to the Affordable Care Act, especially those with pre-existing conditions.

In fact, polling from Small Business Majority found small businesses prefer the ACA to the AHCA by a 2-1 ratio. The survey also found small businesses opposed key components of the replacement plan. It should come as no surprise then that nearly 6 in 10 small-business owners support the current health care law.

Entrepreneurs around the country don’t want or need another health care overhaul; what they need is quality, affordable health coverage so they can focus on running their businesses. As the CBO’s estimate shows, repealing the ACA would be a disaster for small businesses. The Senate would be wise to drop any further attempts to move forward with a replacement plan.
