Dear Editor,

As a Republican candidate from Ozark for the Missouri House of Representatives, I read with interest your article posted online Jan. 13 about Mr. Morris' announcement that he will seek the same office. I welcome Mr. Morris to the race for the 140th District. I look forward to a positive campaign giving the people of Christian County a choice in their representation and hope my competitor is also committed to a healthy debate without the backbiting that sickens voters.

Since my own announcement last summer, I've had the opportunity to visit with hundreds of citizens across the eastern Christian County district and have found that the message of keeping government out of the way resonates with those I've met. We must restore employment levels so everyone has an opportunity to do valuable work and receive compensation to support their families. People I've talked with understand the overaggressive nature of government regulations - including the recent federal health care bill -  and uncertainty concerning future regulations are the largest constrictors of job growth.

That's why I've committed to repealing unnecessary state regulations, preventing new ones, standing against unconstitutional overreach by the federal government in our personal lives and businesses, and preventing municipalities from establishing oppressive ordinances.

With freedom to make the decisions needed to grow their businesses, we'll see employers offering more opportunities. Once employment opportunities increase, the housing market will rebound, and sales and income tax revenues will rise, allowing us to make investments in Missouri's future through transportation infrastructure and education reform.

These elections are important to the future of our state. I look forward to sharing this vision for the future with thousands of our neighbors here in eastern Christian County during the coming months. We have what it takes to bring positive growth back to southwest Missouri. I'm committed to keeping the government out of the way so growth can happen sooner rather than later.
