Lego becomes world's biggest toymaker

Posted online
Danish toy manufacturer Lego Group has taken the title of the biggest toymaker in the world in terms of revenue and profit.

The popular "Lego Movie" helped propel sales 11 percent higher in the first six months of the year. The family-owned business surpassed top competitor Mattel, which has struggled with slumping global sales and slower demand for Barbie dolls and Fisher-Price toys.

First half-sales rose to 11.5 billion Danish kroner ($2.03 billion) from 10.4 billion kroner in the same period last year, according to MarketWatch. Net profit increased 14 percent during the first six months of the year to 2.72 billion kroner.
