The manufacturer of home and office furnishings, retail store displays and bedding industry machinery will use the credits, received through the enhanced enterprise zone program, to create 30 new jobs and invest $6 million in its Carthage facility.
“The Missouri Department of Economic Development works with companies and communities throughout our state as they strive to enhance opportunities for Missourians and has an exceptional track record in helping to create jobs and strengthen our state’s economy,” Gov. Matt Blunt said in a news release announcing the credits.
Enhanced enterprise zones are specified geographic areas designated by local governments, based on demographic criteria, the potential to create sustainable jobs and a demonstrated impact on local development.
This is not the first time Leggett & Platt has received state tax credits; in 2004, the company received nearly $87,000 from the state’s Youth Opportunities Program for a program serving “at-risk” students from the Carthage School District.[[In-content Ad]]
Under construction beside the existing Republic branch of the Springfield-Greene County Library District – which remains in operation throughout the project – is a new building that will double the size of the original, according to library officials.
