Leggett & Platt acquires five companies

Posted online
Carthage, Mo.,-based Leggett & Platt has acquired five companies in the last quarter that will add about $85 million to annual revenues and enhance the company’s presence in Asia.

Leggett, which manufactures furnishings and aluminum and industrial materials, acquired two small operations in North America that together add about $10 million in sales revenue. Westex International in Toronto produces a line of down comforters and was acquired to push Leggett’s recently launched “top of bed” category, company officials said in a news release. Everwood Products in northern Mississippi produces motion mechanisms for upholstered furniture. Everwood also has in-house design capability for component products and automated machinery.

In Asia, Leggett’s acquistion of three companies adds a combined $75 million in sales and another $20 million in store fixtures manufacturing.

The company acquired Ikex Inc. and membership interests of Jarex Distribution LLC, adding $65 million in sales to Leggett’s Residential Furnishings segment. Together, the two companies have about 130 employees and seven distribution facilities for landscaping synthetic fabrics. Leggett is a converter of fabric through its Hanes Companies.

Leggett also acquired Shanghai Fixtures Facility, a fixtures manufacturing facility in China. The manufacturer was a previous key supplier for Leggett, therefore the acquisition will have no effect on annual revenues. The acquisition adds about $20 million to Leggett’s production.

The Shanghai facility acquisition gives Leggett an operating presence in China that still continues to meet the demand in the United States. The facility’s operations include full steel fabrication and resources and powder coating and chrome plating finishing, and it employs about 460.

A fifth acquisition for Leggett was Jia Jiang Furniture Mechanism Facility – a motion furniture mechanism producer that is expected to add more than $10 million to Leggett’s annual revenue.[[In-content Ad]]
