Legacies in Architecture

Posted online

Chesterfield Village, at Kansas Expressway and Cox Road

Designed by Warren Bates Jr. and Associates, Architects, with Lewis Bussey, Land Planning, this ongoing development, owned by Modern Tractor and Supply (Cox family) is a complete community including retail, restaurants, offices, financial services, health care, swimming, tennis, a clubhouse, multifamily housing and single-family residences. The architecture is a melting pot of modern technology and neoclassical detailing. Each building is a unique design and yet a common architectural vocabulary ties the buildings together to create an overall sense of harmony.

Why is this project your legacy? "Architects design environments which are sensitive to man's inner needs while servicing his outer deeds. Rarely do we get such a choice opportunity to do so. At Chesterfield, we created a sense of belonging for those who live and work there. The detailing and styling are reminiscent of a time past, and yet it looks to a future where we do not need to travel on five lanes of hardtop to live, work or play."
