Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts, 525 S. John Q. Hammons Pkwy.

Designed by Jerry Hagerman, AIA, and Tim Rosenbury, AIA, this Southwest Missouri State University project was completed in July 1992. A 2,250-seat state-of-the-art performing arts center, the facility also includes academic spaces for the music department and the administrative spaces necessary for the hall itself. This facility provides a linkage between SMSU and the greater Springfield Arts community.

Why is this project your legacy? The project is a community treasure which will serve not only the university, but the arts community and the region. It is a world-class hall for the performing arts. The hall design is unique and timeless. It will be a cornerstone of the university and the community for many years to come. The facility contains numerous unique solutions to theater design problems. Balconies are supported by counter-balanced roof decks, and acoustics are regulated through mechanical controls, wall systems and wall textures. Cavity walls isolate exterior sound from interior performances while providing mechanical chases and circulation access for balconies.
