The Springfield Business Journal building, 313 Park Central West

Designed by Laura Jean Derrick, this renovation of an existing 100-year-old building for owner Dianne Elizabeth was completed in January 1996. The abandoned downtown structure, once a boarding house for Frisco railroad workers and home to various commercial concerns, was renovated into new offices for SBJ with additional space for lease availible on the building's third floor.

Why is this project your legacy? This marked the first project on which Derrick was able to take a 100-year-old building and totally renovate it to meet current codes and technology guidelines, while retaining much of its historic character. She said it is her hope that more projects of this type may be pursued and completed in the future.
