The Dogwood Canyon Covered Bridge

Engineered by Bill Bergmann, PE, for owner Bass Pro Shops, this covered bridge is constructed of old bridge timbers, bolts and plates and is reminiscent of the old trestle bridges of the 1800s. Designed by Tom Jowett, AIA, of Bass Pro Shops Architectural Department, the structural design was executed by Bergmann and the bridge itself was built by Amish Craftsmen retained by Bass Pro Shops, along with its own craftsmen. It was completed in August 1992.

Why is this project your legacy? This project is a very unique structural solution for a bridge problem. The use of old timbers in a structural trestle frame is a very honest expression of the structural solution. It is built to last, and the Dogwood Canyon area is a noted conservation area and will always be a place of quiet magnificence.
