West Farm Road 160 and Intersection of Battlefield Road and Golden Avenue Road Widening
Designed by Harrington & Cortelyou Inc. for Greene County and the city of Springfield, this project was completed in spring of this year. The project involved widening of a two-lane road to a five-lane curb-and-gutter roadway for 1.8 miles, an enclosed storm drainage system, a traffic signal at Battlefield and Golden, bicycle lanes and sidewalks on both sides of Farm Road 160, a pedestrian ramp connecting Farm Road 160 to Ozarks Greenways' trail and a new bridge over South Creek and the Greenways trail, which, at 213 feet long and 5 lanes wide, is one of the largest bridges maintained by the county.
Why is this project your legacy? The increase in public safety, social benefits gained, and improved transportation access to the local area resulting from the improvements are important to Harrington and Cortelyou. This project increases the safety at each intersection with West Farm Road 160, including Golden Avenue, the entrance to Carver Middle School and subdivision entrances. Safety for children walking to and from school, bicyclists and other pedestrians is greatly increased via sidewalks and designated bicycle lanes. The improvements to the Farm Road 160/Battlefield Road corridor enhance the access to this area by complementing the improvements under way on Route FF, connecting James River Freeway to Sunshine Avenue.
