Lecture looks at ethanol’s effect on corn supply

Posted online
A Tuesday morning lecture in Springfield will explore the effects of ethanol production on the world’s corn supply and its relation to the global feed industry.

Lexington, Ky.-based Alltech will visit Springfield as part of its annual North American Lecture Tour, which will reach 20 cities through Jan. 19.

Tuesday’s discussion will be held 9 a.m.–noon in the Colorado Ballroom of University Plaza, 333 S. John Q. Hammons Parkway. The event is free and open to the public.

Under its “How will we feed our animals?” theme, the discussion will look at supply challenges associated with the continued rise of ethanol production, which Alltech estimates has increased 250 percent in the last two years and will grow another 100 percent within three years, according to an Alltech news release. That growth has taken a toll on the use of corn as animal feed, down to 50 percent from 80 percent 40 years ago.

Alltech provides natural nutritional solutions for the food and feed industries.
