Lebanon bankers make ‘signature gift’ to St. John’s

Posted online
Visions of a $3.4 million cancer care center at St. John’s Hospital-Lebanon are much closer to reality after the hospital received a “signature gift” from Lebanon’s Curry family. The family owns Central Bank.

The donation was first made known to about 700 people Friday evening during St. John's-Lebanon Heritage Foundation's annual gala, featuring Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Peter Cetera.

The family has requested that foundation officials not disclose the specific amount. The center will be named The Curry Cancer Center and will provide comprehensive diagnosis, treatment and support to area cancer patients.

“It is a most gracious gift from a most gracious family,” said St. John’s-Lebanon Heritage Foundation President Kenneth Howe in a news release.

A fund-raising campaign is under way for the 3,000-square-foot cancer center and other hospital expansion.

"Lebanon has been good to our family,” said Craig Curry, Central Bank chairman and CEO, in the release. “Our success comes from our community, and that's why we wanted to give back.”

I.T. Curry and a group of shareholders organized Central Bank in 1917, calling it State Savings Bank. There are now six branches.
