A Kansas City megachurch went looking for $60 million in public donations to finance its new $90 million expansion plans and found a pleasant surprise: $63.2 million.

The Kansas City Star reports 3,800 households part of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection pledged a total of $63.2 million to the project near Roe Avenue and 137th Street. The new sanctuary, slated to be completed in early 2017, would span 155,000 square feet and seat 3,500.

With nearly 19,000 members, the church is the largest Protestant church in the KC area.

The remaining $26.8 million will be funded through debt financing.
