More than 100 law enforcement agencies across Missouri are getting assistance from federal grant money being handed out by the state.
The U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Assistance is providing more than $817,000 for city, county and state law enforcement agencies to purchase equipment including ballistic vests, squad car light bars, sirens, in-car cameras and police radios.
Area agencies getting funding:
• City of Bolivar, $8,186;
• City of Crane, $9,000;
• City of Greenfield, $8,959;
• Kimberling City, $9,000;
• Lawrence County, $8,068;
• City of Monett, $7,644;
• City of Nevada, $9,000;
• City of Osage Beach, $8,122;
• City of Ozark, $8,100;
• Polk County, $8,640;
• City of Republic, $9,000;
• City of Rogersville, $1,811;
• Webb City, $4,548; and
• City of Willard, $6,671.
The maximum grant award is $9,000, and each requires a 10 percent match, according to a news release from Gov. Jay Nixon's office.
"Protecting the men and women of law enforcement, who risk their lives every day to protect the people of Missouri, is one my highest priorities,” Nixon said in the release. “This money will supply essential equipment ... in rural areas and in the largest metropolitan areas of the state.”
