Large companies prepared to pay price on carbon

The divide between Republicans and the big corporations that finance them is growing, according to an article in the New York Times.
 
The latest indication of the rift is a report by CDP, an environmental data company, stating that nearly 30 major U.S. corporations, including five from Big Oil, are expecting to be forced to pay fines for carbon pollution and are including those costs in their financial plans.
 
Groups on both sides of the climate-change debate interpret the moves as an indication that larger corporations might be more inclined to support addressing climate change in order to continue to make money while adapting to expected regulations on carbon pollution. The change in financial strategy is seen as a distancing from the traditional Republican stance against accepting climate change as an actual environmental threat and its policy against any tax or fine that could impact businesses, the Times reports.
