Cash Williams out at KTTS after nine years

KTTS-FM owner SummitMedia LLC yesterday announced the hiring of a veteran radio personality to replace Cash Williams, who last week was let go from the station.

Bo Jaxon comes to Springfield from Denver, where he worked the last six years as a program director and morning host for KSE Radio Ventures, according to his LinkedIn profile. He was named operations manager for SummitMedia’s local operations — comprising KTTS-FM, KSPW-FM, KRVI-FM and KSGF-FM — and co-host of the “KTTS Morning Show,” said Janelle Moffett, president of SummitMedia-Springfield.

“We saw an opportunity with his talents to increase the ‘Morning Show’ audience,” she said. “We were impressed by his talent. We look forward to sharing that with everyone in Springfield.”

Jaxon will co-host the “KTTS Morning Show” with current host Nancy Simpson. Moffett said the name of the show — previously the “Morning Show with Cash and Nancy” — hasn’t yet been chosen.

Moffett confirmed former co-host Williams was laid off on Feb. 1. Springfield Business Journal yesterday published an article about Williams’ termination after he posted about his exit on Facebook.

“I didn’t do anything wrong to get fired,” said Williams, who worked at KTTS for nine years, in a video post. “The reason was they decided to go a different direction, which is their right.”

Moffett said there were no other layoffs at the 35-employee SummitMedia-Springfield.

In addition to co-hosting the “KTTS Morning Show,” Jaxon will serve as program director for the four Springfield radio stations owned by SummitMedia. Tom Oakes, who previously was operations manager and program director, in a Facebook post yesterday said his role at SummitMedia was intended to be a “short-term position” and that he would help Jaxon transition into the role.

“Next week I’ll be in Nashville for the Country Radio Seminar, and soon it’s home to the Twin Cities and the search for the next great adventure,” he said in the post.

Jaxon, according to his LinkedIn profile, has worked in radio broadcasting since at least 1990.
