Rams owner Stan Kroenke has been clear about his intention to move the team from St. Louis. After receiving the voting nod by other NFL team owners, the Missouri businessman is fast-tracking his plans for a multibillion-dollar stadium in Inglewood, Calif.
The Los Angeles Times sat down with Kroenke on his first visit as owner of the Los Angeles Rams. The wide-ranging interview covered his final pitch to league owners, the emotional relocation process and his ambitious vision for the site of the former Hollywood Park racetrack.
"You don't get too many shots like this in life," the 68-year-old Kroenke told the L.A. Times.
He reveals the stadium plans are 6,700 pages and plenty of “pretty pictures,” the reaction by Dallas Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones and the role of Seattle Seahawks owner and Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen. Kroenke says right after the vote, he received 122 emails and over 300 text messages, including “You have changed this city,” from an investor partner.
But he calls it bittersweet to leave Missouri.
“I grew up in Missouri, and there's a lot of wonderful people in St. Louis and Missouri. I'll always feel that way about Missouri,” he told the L.A. Times. “I never dreamed I'd be put in this position. But at the same time, you're not going to sit there and be a victim.”
