Kraft removes artificial preservatives from Singles

Posted online
Northfield, Ill.-based Kraft Foods Group Inc. announced it would remove an artificial preservative from its most popular Singles cheese products as companies such as Subway face pressure to eliminate food additives.

Sorbic acid, which is found in the full-fat American and White American Kraft Singles varieties, will be replaced with natamycin – a natural mold inhibitor, according to the Associated Press.

Kraft plans to promote the change near the end of February as it begins airing TV ads touting that its Kraft Singles cheese product is made with milk and now with no artificial preservatives.

The move comes a week after fast-food brand Subway announced it was removing a food additive from its bread after a popular food blogger started a petition noting the ingredient also is used in yoga mats.
