Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster has filed suit against a California telemarketer for alleged violations of the state's no-call law.
The lawsuit alleges Timeshare Relief Inc., and its owner David MacMillan, made hundreds of automated calls to Missourians on the state's no-call list, offering consumers assistance in selling or transferring timeshares, according to a news release.
Koster's office received more than 100 complaints from Missouri consumers. The suit claims the company ignored consumers' requests to stop calling, further violating Missouri's telemarketing law.
“Missourians place their phone numbers on our no-call list for a very simple reason - they do not want to receive annoying, unwanted sales calls,” Koster said in the release. “We will continue to take action against companies that ignore our state law.”
In the suit, Koster is asking for court approval to prohibit Timeshare Relief Inc. from further soliciting Missouri consumers, and is seeking penalties of up to $5,000 per violation of the no-call law, up to $1,000 per violation of the telemarketing law and recovery of the costs associated with the investigation and prosecution of the case, the release said.[[In-content Ad]]
