Koster files suit against Tyson

Posted online
More than 100,000 fish in Clear Creek are dead and Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster believes Tyson Foods Inc. (NYSE: TSN) is to blame.

Koster filed a six-count suit Tuesday in Barry County alleging the unlawful dumping of untreated industrial waste water.

The suit seeks penalties against the Arkansas-based company, as well as compensation for damages and reimbursement of state costs.

The Joplin Globe reports investigators believe the cause of the kill was an undisclosed quantity of Alimet, an amino acid compound that Tyson Foods uses as a feed ingredient for its poultry operations in the area, going into Monett's wastewater treatment plant on May 16.

The treatment plant was not informed of the substance.
