Kohl's donates $71K to St. John's injury prevention center

The St. John's Kohl's Injury Prevention Center is receiving $71,381 from Kohl's Cares for Kids, an initiative that supports children's health and education opportunities, according to a news release from the St. John's Foundation for Community Health.

St. John's Kohl's Injury Prevention Center provides programs aimed at educating people about and mitigating the leading causes of injury in the region. Program efforts reached more than 120,000 people last year.

"Trauma injuries are the No. 1 cause of death for children," said Pam Holt, St. John's Injury Prevention program coordinator, in the release. "Kohl's commitment to improve the health of children and prevent trauma injuries in our community has allowed us to reach more children with our safety message than ever before."

Kohl's has provided more than $220,000 to St. John's since 2005 through the Kohl's Cares for Kids program, which raises funds through the sale of special gift items.

Net profits from the sales go to children's health and educational opportunities in the markets served by the Wisconsin-based retailer.

St. John's recognized Kohl's in 2007 by naming the St. John's Kohl's injury prevention partnership and purchasing a van to allow outreach to regional schools and communities throughout the Ozarks.
