Kohl’s $1M renovations near completion

Springfield’s Kohl’s department store is getting a $1 million facelift, which is set for completion May 17.

The store, 1909 E. Independence St., is one of 29 in the country being renovated this spring, according to a Kohl’s press release. The Menomonee Falls, Wis.-based chain has 834 stores, and 90 total have been renovated under a redesign launched in late 2006, according to the release. The value of the renovation was taken from a Springfield building permit filed last October.

Renovations include a new façade, outdoor and indoor music systems, updated restrooms, updated check-out stands, expanded customer service area, updated fitting rooms, new merchandise displays, wider aisles and new carpet and paint.

Founded in 1962, Kohl’s stores carry apparel, shoes, fashion accessories, small appliances, bedding, luggage and more. Kohl’s Corp. (NYSE: KSS) went public in 1992 and now generates more than $15 billion in annual revenues.

Kohl’s has 19 locations in Missouri, including a distribution center in Blue Springs, according to its Web site, www.kohls.com.[[In-content Ad]]
