Kid-focused 'Amazeum' takes shape in Bentonville, Ark.

Posted online
The concrete floor has been laid and the most of the interior steel frame has been erected as part of the $21.5 million children’s museum being constructed in Bentonville, Ark. Named the Amazeum, the 50,000-square-foot facility is scheduled to open sometime in 2015, according to Arkansas Business.

First conceived in 2006 as a way to promote an interest among children in the areas of science, technology, engineering, arts, math, social studies, language and culture, the facility will sit on five acres at the tip of the entrance road to Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. It got an early fundraising boost via a $10 million grant from the Walton Family Foundation.

Attractions for the interactive museum include a “Tinkering” station, a water lab and climbing canopy. The museum’s website, Amazeum.org, features an interactive construction webcam, so the public can follow its progress.
