Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield Inc. last week was presented a surprise $100,000 donation from comedian Kevin Hart and Sam’s Club.
The contribution marks a partnership between Hart, his comedy and multiplatform entertainment company Laugh Out Loud and the retailer, according to a news release.
"One of the best things you can do for yourself is believe in other people. I’ve always had people in my life that believed in me, and I believe in the power of passing that onto others," Hart said in the release. "The donations we made went to organizations that believe in the future of kids and their families. I’m proud we were able to work together to make a big impact."
The local Boys & Girls Clubs chapter gathered Nov. 23 for what officials thought was a holiday party organized by Sam's Club. The nonprofit then dialed into a virtual call with Hart to find out about the donation.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield was one of five nonprofits nationwide that received $100,000 apiece. The others were Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida in Orlando; Houston Child Advocates in Texas; Positive Tomorrows in Oklahoma City; and Special Needs Network in Los Angeles, according to the release.
"These groups have an incredible impact on the communities and families they serve," said Tony Rogers, senior vice president and chief member officer for Sam’s Club, in the release. "It’s been an honor for us to work together with Kevin and Laugh Out Loud to recognize their work with gifts that allow them to further their missions."
