Keurig launches Campbell’s K-cups

In an effort to boost sales, Keurig Green Mountain (Nasdaq: GMCR) is joining forces with Campbell’s for its first food offering - soup in a K-cup.

The “Fresh-Brewed Soup” line initially will be available in two flavors and retail as an 8-pack of pods for roughly $12.

The partnership with Campbell Soup Co. is a late-market entry for the company known primarily for instantly brewed coffee and tea. Competitor General Mills also offers Progresso soup and Natural Valley oatmeal products in its own Bistro Cups line, but the pods are not affiliated with Keurig.

Keurig has become a tough sell in 2015 with company share prices losing half their value year-to-date. A 27 percent hit came in August when the company announced layoffs for 330 workers. Sales also dropped 5 percent in the second quarter.
