KCI Construction takes No. 1 spot at SBJ's Dynamic Dozen

KCI Construction Co. won the top spot among the fastest-growing companies in the Ozarks at Springfield Business Journal's annual Dynamic Dozen awards.

The commercial general contracting firm was honored among 12 companies at the event held yesterday at The Old Glass Place. Three individual awards and a Judges' Choice honor also were presented.

The awards, detailed in SBJ's upcoming May 19 print edition, rank companies based on 2024 revenue and 2022-24 revenue growth percentage.

It was KCI Construction Co.'s first year eligible for the Dynamic Dozen awards. The St. Louis-based general contractor entered the Springfield market three years ago.

KCI Construction Co., which operates in Springfield at 1950 W. Sunset St., reported 2024 local revenue of $51 million, representing 2022-24 growth of 329.9%. The company additionally reported a 320% increase in local employees to 84 in 2024.

Gregg Scholtens, vice president of operations in Springfield, told attendees from the stage that KCI Construction Co.'s local workforce make the company work.

"The people that really do it are the ones that are out there in the ditch right now, that are out there in the heat right now, they're in the cold in the middle of the winter. Those are the ones that really do it for KCI Construction," Scholtens said.

The 12 fastest-growing companies on the Dynamic Dozen list, with 2024 revenue and 2022-24 revenue growth, are as follows:

• No. 2: Keep Supply, $50.9 million, 177.2%
• No. 3: Phoenix Home Care & Hospice, $194.4 million, 62.1%
• No. 4: 27North Inc., $14.3 million, 252%
• No. 5: The Arc of the Ozarks, $105.5 million, 59%
• No. 6: Valiant Management Group LLC, $11.5 million, 180.5%
• No. 7: Paladin Managed Solutions LLC, $5.7 million, 181.4%
• No. 8: TierOne, $6.6 million, 137.6%
• No. 9: Gold Mechanical Inc., $60.8 million, 53.7%
• No. 10: CoxHealth, $7.3 billion, 23.7%
• No. 11: Mercy Springfield Communities, $5.5 billion, 20%
• No. 12: Convoy of Hope, $689.9 million, 33.9%

Gold Mechanical additionally received the Judges' Choice honor.

Individual awards presented at the event were:
• Top CEO/Managing Partner: Carol McLeod, co-owner of Hold Fast Brewing
• Top Sales/Marketing Professional: Carly Taft, regional marketing senior leader at Forvis Mazars LLP
• Top Human Resources Professional: Karen Carcamo, human resources director at Gold Mechanical
