KC streetcar project garners lawsuit from bus drivers

Ahead of a proposed spring grand opening of Kansas City’s downtown streetcar line, a bus drivers union’s lawsuit could throw a wrench in the works.  

Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1287 and its president, J.P. Walker, are calling for work on the streetcars to stop until its dispute with the city of Kansas City is resolved, and they’re arguing officials should give its drivers a crack at the streetcar jobs.  

The union says the city’s contractor, Herzog Transit services, has already hired drivers and mechanics despite the fact the union’s arbitration with the city is ongoing.
