KC Star questions UMKC top ranking

A 2011 academic study that ranked the University of Missouri-Kansas City as the top college in the world for innovation management research has now been called into question by the Kansas City Star.

According to independent experts who reviewed the study on the Star’s request, the study may have been structured in a way to ensure UMKC’s Henry W. Bloch School of Management received the top ranking.

The study’s two Chinese authors were working on the UMKC campus at the time the paper – which was published in the Journal of Product Innovation Management – was written. While JPIM and UMKC say that doesn’t negate the study’s findings, the undisclosed relationship and the unorthodox methodology has drawn concern from several experts.
