KC, Minneapolis law merger creates regional power

Kansas City-based law firm Stinson Morrison Hecker LLP has agreed to merge with Minneapolis-based Leonard Street and Deinard to create Stinson Leonard Street LLP, a firm with 529 employees and offices in 14 cities.

The deal is scheduled to close Jan. 1, with Stinson Leonard Street expected to emerge as one of the nation’s 75 largest law firms, according to the Kansas City Business Journal. Its headquarters' functions will be spread across multiple offices, according to the report.

Stinson Morrison Hecker’s more than 300 employees provide corporate, transaction and litigation services for Fortune 500 companies to private businesses. According to Kansas City Business Journal 2013 list research, the firm’s 170 local employees make it the fourth largest law firm in the Kansas City area.  

Leonard Street and Deinard brings more than 200 employees to the merger and a similar client portfolio.
