KC, Memphis land on list of top underrated food cities

Posted online
Kansas City and Memphis were each named to a 2015 list of seven of the most underrated food cities in the U.S.

The ranking website Thrillist.com sought to select cities in “flyover states” or less-populated harbor towns that had food and beverage options on par with some of the well-known culinary capitals such as New York, San Francisco and New Orleans.

Kansas City was recognized for being home to multiple James Beard Award winners and nominees. Establishments of note in the piece include Port Fonda, Local Pig and cocktail bar Manifesto.

Memphis, like Kansas City, is known for barbecue, but it also has an eclectic mix of restaurants from different culinary cultures, including Brazilian, Ethiopian and Filipino, according to Thrillist.com. Restaurants The Second Line, Arepa and Salsa and Porcellino’s Craft Butcher were mentioned among top destinations.
