KC lands support in pursuit of Republican National Convention

Posted online
Can Kansas City land the 2016 Republican National Convention? The City of Fountains is hoping its newest heavy hitter to join the task force might sway the convention vote.

According to the Kansas City Business Journal, former Sen. Bob Dole has signed on to help lure the convention to KC. He joins other Republican notables such as U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt, Kansas Gov. Sam Brownback and former U.S. senator and former Missouri Gov. Christopher "Kit" Bond.

The task force has until Feb. 26 to submit its response to the RNC's formal convention request for proposals. While specific convention terms and requirements have not been released, previous convention hosts told KCBJ the group will need to raise $50 million to $60 million to land the convention.

Other cities lining up bids include Las Vegas, Salt Lake City and New Orleans. Kansas City last hosted the Republican National Convention in 1976.
