KC hosts economic development conference this week

The 2008 Governor’s Conference on Economic Development is scheduled for Wednesday–Friday in Kansas City and carries the theme “Missouri’s Future: Prepare to Profit.”

The event will be at the Hyatt Regency and Westin Crown Center.

Economist Jeff Thredgold will be the conference’s opening speaker at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, and former Kansas City Chiefs and NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Len Dawson will be the closing speaker on Friday. Gov. Matt Blunt also will announce the latest participants in the Downtown Revitalization and Economic Assistance for Missouri (DREAM) initiative on Thursday, according to a news release.

Breakout sessions include: Staying Ahead in ED: The P-20 Council and Missouri Partnership; Technology-Based Economic Development: Definitions and Strategies; Hacked: What Every Business and Government Entity Must Know; Secrets of Time Management – How to Take Control of Your Time and Your Life; Shovel Ready Sites and Other Tools for Successful Economic Gardening; and Chasing Cheetahs: Key Lessons from Missouri’s Fast-Growth Firms.
