On Thursday, the Kansas City Council unanimously approved an ordinance authorizing City Manager Troy Schulte to move ahead with a memorandum of understanding between the city and Burke Swerdling & Associates LLC, the developer of a planned $300 million convention center hotel in the city's downtown area.
The vote comes less than two weeks after the $302.5 million hotel plan was revealed to the public.
The Kansas City Business Journal reports the MOU authorizes the city to spend $35 million to build the 800-room, 30-story Hyatt hotel with 75,000 square feet of meeting space and a 450- to 500-space garage — and a city catering agreement worth an additional $62.4 million over 15 years.
