KC ‘boutique boom’ features nine hotels in the works

In downtown Kansas City, nine boutique hotels have been announced or are currently under construction, marking a hotel boom for Missouri’s largest city, according to the Kansas City Star.

There are already roughly 3,450 hotel rooms in KC’s downtown, Crossroads and Crown Center area, and there could be over 4,600 in two years – not counting the proposed 800-room convention center hotel tower.

While big hotel plans often garner significant attention, civic leaders in the area say the “boutique boom,” which is adding nearly 1,200 rooms to the current mix, is valuable in the competition for convention, business and tourism travel.
