Rep. Nick Marshall, R-Parkville, announced his intention to file articles of impeachment against Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon for his recent executive order that allows married same-sex couples to file joint tax returns, the Springfield News-Leader reports.
Same-sex marriage is not legal in Missouri; however, the state’s income taxes are based on federal tax returns, and the Internal Revenue Service said in August that it will allow married same-sex couples to file jointly.
Marshall announced his plans to file articles of impeachment against Nixon on Facebook, criticizing the governor in subsequent posts on issues that included the sharing names of concealed-carry permit holders with federal authorities, according to the News-Leader.
