A small newspaper and a police department in Kansas are at the center of a First Amendment fight after the publication's office was raided by law enforcement.
Computers and cellphones of the Marion County Record's publisher and staff were confiscated as part of a criminal probe alleging the newspaper illegally obtained and used personal information about a local business owner.
An attorney for the newspaper deemed the searches and seizures illegal. The Society of Professional Journalists has pledged $20,000 toward the newspaper's legal defense.
