Kansas legislators look to boost aid for public schools

Republican legislators in Kansas are looking to boost aid to public schools while providing financial stability and flexibility.

However, questions are left unanswered. For example, legislators have not said how they would pay for additional aid for schools with Kansas facing a budget shortfall approaching $600 million for the fiscal year, beginning July 1, according to the Kansas City Star.

The boost also would cover the state's contributions to pensions for teachers, which are expected to rise in the next year significantly.
